DON'T BE ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL

In my now ten years of sevice to God; I am embarassed at what I hear coming from the pulpits of mainstream american churches. I often wonder if there are but a handful of preachers left who are willing to stand for the truth of scripture. It seems that political corectness has won the hearts of so many who presumably have been called to preach. Hell, sin, repentance and salvation performed by God through sovereign election in Christ via the cross seems to have little place in today's preaching. I am an itenerant preacher and I often find myself confronted by blank stares as if preaching something foreign. And I suppose that is to be expected among the spiritually dead; but far too often the strange looks come from those who claim to be christians. I have come to the conclusion that if churches would devote as much time to preaching the word as they do to planning activities maybe there would not be so many false converts with a false view of what it means to deny one's self. Jesus had few false converts and if you study what He said you will find out why; He was not politically correct, He often would say things like, if you do not believe in me as God then you will die in your sins; He called people blind, deaf and dumb; even calling one woman a dog. Jesus went out of His way to make sure no one would trust in Him apart from them being the one's chosen in Him by the Father before the foundation of the world. He would not have every sheep coming after Him, only those who knew His voice.
